The first thing you will notice about this park will be all the cats lying around. Located in between Copacabana and Ipanema beach, close to the Arpoador rock, it features a skating rink, a fitness area and a playground. Weekend concerts sometimes take place here so check local listings. There is also a good view of the beach and the girls from Ipanema if you do not want to get all sandy and wet.
This classy house by the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, once the home of Eva Klabin, became a foundation in 1990. The wealthy interior contains some interesting antiques like furniture, family memorabilia, Chinese sculptures and a valuable porcelain collection.The stars of the museum include an Egyptian sarcophagus of a cat and paintings by Tintoreto and Donatello. Well worth a visit for those searching for an enlightening experience. Visits are by appointment only.
A huge library completed in 1887 with more than 350,000 volumes, among them a rare 1572 edition of Luís de Camões's "Os Lusíadas." Located across from the Igreja de São Francisco de Paula, the entire collection is devoted to Portuguese literature. Most interesting is the reading room itself, which is naturally lit by a red, white and blue stained-glass skylamp. If you are a book lover you will definetly love this place! after all what ir a vacation if you don't have the time to read, right?
The football club was founded in 1902, Fluminense has a long and distinguished football history, with a lot of famous players passing through over the years. Their stadium, Laranjeiras (meaning Orange Trees) is small, with a capacity of only 8,000. Fluminense last won the Brazilian Championships in 1984, but they have won the Campeonato Carioca 28 times. They also offer water polo and have a shooting club, as well as tennis courts and many other activities, so if you happend to be travelling in Rio and you are also a sport fan you must pay a visit to this club.
